If I take my owns skis on holiday, are they covered?

Yes, ski policies usually cover for loss or damage to your own snow sport equipment. However, there are normally restrictions for damage to your equipment while it is in use.

Am I covered for helicopter rescue off the slopes?

Yes, should you need, most insurers will cover you for helicopter evacuation to get you to the nearest hospital for overseas trips. For domestic ski policies you will need to check with your insurer as many domestic travel insurance policies do not include medical benefits.

I'm only skiing for a weekend - can I buy ski insurance for a portion of my holiday?

What does it mean when it says I am covered for bad weather?

If you’re delayed because of bad weather, a comprehensive policy will usually cover your additional travel and accommodation expenses. Also, if there is an avalanche your policy may cover you to go to an alternative resort, or get reimbursement for unused ski passes.

Are there any exclusions to be aware of?

Most insurers only cover you in “ski season”! This means between December 1 and April 15 for the Northern Hemisphere, and between 15 June and 30 September in the Southern Hemisphere.
